Noon – 4 p.m.
Topics include recruitment & retention, budget planning, advancement, work/life & family friendly policies and legal issues for Chairs.
Hosted by Faculty Diversity & Development and the Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel.

 

October 1 & 2, 2008, Faculty Search Committee Briefings

Two sessions each day:
October 1, Noon – 2 p.m. & 3 p.m. - 5 p.m.
October 2, 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. & Noon – 2 p.m.

The Search Committee Chair or another member from each search committee should attend. Briefings are open to all faculty members. The briefing covers the search process, research findings related to recruiting, interviewing and evaluating candidates and practices that enable equity.

This retreat for department chairs in STEM fields from 5 southern California UC campuses will address topics including recruitment, advancement, retention, handling conflict situations, mentoring and family friendly policies & practices.

This semi-annual luncheon for Assistant Professors provides the opportunity to ask questions about the advancement process in small groups with former members of the Council on Academic Personnel (CAP) and the Vice Chancellor, Academic Personnel.

Panel Discussion & Luncheon

This annual faculty luncheon and panel discussion addresses issues such as the legal and practical aspects of accommodating visible and invisible disabilities in the classroom.

November 14, 2008, Department Chair Forum: Discussion with the EVC/Provost

During this luncheon meeting, the EVC/Provost will provide an overview of current issues at UCLA that are of interest to Department Chairs, followed by an informal discussion.

November 17, 2008, Faculty Mentoring Workshops

Several 2-hour mentoring workshops will be offered, covering issues and challenges in mentoring faculty members and providing recommended practices for mentoring faculty at all levels.
